Software Glossary

The following are common words which use in almost all software categories.

Freeware

Freeware is software which available on internet to download and use for free of charge.

License

License is the legal right to use the software. When purchasing software, number of license is mostly refer to the number PC. Example you bought antivirus software five licenses, it mean you bought antivirus software for five computers. Some license can be package, example such as 3 PCs license.

License Period

License Period is number of years you can use the software, when you purchased the software.

Non Commercial Use

Non Commercial Use refers to using software that is not involved in making money activities and only for personal use. The word is mostly use when a company provides software for free of charge to only home user for personal use.

Open Source

Open Source software is referred to software that you can use for free and freely distribute. User also can obtain source code and do modification to the software.

Platform

This word is mostly use. Platform refers to computer operating system (OS) such as Windows, Linux, Mac, Solaris, FreeBSD and so on.

Shareware

Shareware is software which you can download and use for period of time before you decide whether to buy it.
